Yea, so I finally decided to do something about my broken furnace, I was getting tired of managing with just electric radiators and had the heating/plumbing guy come out today. After he completed the work on the furnace the guy was sitting at my kitchen table toting up the damage to my almost maxed out credit card, he apparently noticed that I had had MSNBC on my TV the entire time he was here.
He asked me if I paid any attention to politics, I of course replied with a spritely(or what passes for spritely these days), 'Oh yes'!
He asked me if I wanted to see Obama reelected, I answered in the affirmative wondering where this thing was going. I couldn't stop myself and added that if the best the GOP could do was Romney, et al, that I didn't think Obama would have too much to worry about.
He allowed as he couldn't disagree with that but went on to add that he didn't think that anyone should be 'allowed' to be President without having military experience.
I said, "Huh?" and went on to remind him that the Founding Fathers specifically designed our government to have a CIVILIAN Commander and Chief for a reason. I cited the recent events in Egypt to point out what happens when the military are allowed to take over the reigns of government. He tried to tell me that 'congress' set that up that way and I assured him that it was in the Constitution, that the founders were adamant about keeping civilian control of the military.
The best he could come back with was "Well, you know Obama says he was born in Hawaii, but he has never produced his birth certificate".
I couldn't help it, I just had to laugh at him and said 'Oh please don't tell me you are serious, that has been debunked so many times I didn't think anyone was still using it".
He tried to proffer an argument, but I told him that he could talk for hours and he would NEVER, EVER convince me of that fallacy, so he gave up.
In the past I would have been very angry by this point, but this guy just amused the hell out of me. I wonder what that means?
