Many of you have likely seen footage of UC police brutalizing peaceful protesters at UC Berkeley. If you have not, here's a rather violent clip:
So let's flood the inbox of Chief of UC Police, Mitchell Celaya: mjc@berkeley.edu
Here's the letter I wrote:
Dear Chief Celaya:
I am writing to voice my concern with the brutal attacks on the protesters at Cal. As an American citizen and a graduate of Berkeley, I was horrified to see fully armed UCPD officers in full riot gear bludgeoning students who were assembled to protest the takeover of our society by a small elite, who, as you know, have wreaked devastating effects on the vast majority of people in the US and in the world, most certainly including the very police officers we rely on for our safety. There is no excuse for the behavior that millions have now witnessed on television and internet videos. There is no justification for officers who have sworn to protect us behaving that way. The statements I have read that attempt to justify the actions of your officers are inexcusable and should be retracted immediately It is an illegal use of excessive force to bludgeon someone who may or may not have spit on your protective shield. I urge you in the strongest terms to reconsider the mission of your department: to serve and protect PEOPLE, and not to hurt them.
Sincerely,
Dr. Deleuzional
