Because I'm tired.  I'm tired of being used for my votes, for my money, of constantly being told to STFU and told to vote for lesser evils, then having cutesy, passive-aggressive denials that I'm being told to STFU tossed my way.

Of having my beliefs in the corrosive nature of the corporate stranglehold on the Democratic Party at large conflated with 'hating the troops', anti-voting rights nonsense, anti-racism, anti-sexism, and every other stupid thing out there.  Of having my views labeled as 'purity trolling' time and again, of listening to people who spend every bloody moment of their time sniping at other site members while defending all sorts of indefensible actions by team blue while condescendingly talking about 'sausage making'.

Of people who refuse to demand their politicians stand behind the principles for which the Democratic Party supposedly stands, but time after time, find excuses for them, then turn around and tell me I 'have to' vote for these politicians and wave Team Red boogeymen at me.

I generally am a pretty even-tempered person, but I have to say I'm getting more and more ticked off listening to Republican propaganda parrot after Republican propaganda parrot blather on and on about how horrible it is that Obamacare will allow people the breathing space to work the equivalent of 2.5 million fewer job's worth of hours.  That they have the gall to pretend these are 'lost jobs'.

Are you guys really just that stupid, or that is this more of the same evil 'destroy the American economy and the American people' to prevent President Obama from claiming any sort of victory for the American people?

You know that godawful unemployment we're suffering through?  All of those people you can't stand paying unemployment insurance payments?  That's 2.5 million more job openings for those people.  For people like me, struggling to find work.  People who need to work those job hours to quit scrounging off of parents, to have the, pardon my French, fucking dignity of work you keep harping about.  We want to work, but there simply aren't enough damn jobs for all of us.

Yet again, in another diary, I was accused of being 'afraid of science', by someone who doesn't have a clue.  So I thought I'd write a short diary to give them one.

Giving Tuesday: Okiciyap

by Dr Erich Bloodaxe RN

As we get closer to Christmas, some folks out there in social media land have declared the advent of 'Giving Tuesday' to join the pantheon of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.

Perhaps to offset the perceived self-centeredness and commercialism, perhaps (if you're cynical) merely to add yet more commercialism to the season.  Either way, it can be a tool for good, which puts it a step up on the One Ring.

I would like to invite those of you who have the luxury of being financially stable to join me in using this newest 'holiday' by thinking again, as so many of you have, time and again, of one of DK's favorite charities.

to my submitted note to him on his website, since he's my Representative.

Offered without comment, in its entirety.

There are folks on site putting forth the idea President Obama has somehow been either brilliant or 'lucky' (but suggesting that he himself created his own luck.)  And a lot of people have signed on to support that idea.

I've got to say, I think it's just wishful thinking on the part of those who simply want the President to be a 'winner' here.

But take a look at what's actually happened, and what the results have been.

(This is pretty much a copy of a diary I put up on Wednesday - I've never figured out 'timing' diaries to get the most eyes, but I figured a weekend morning diary would catch people who might not have seen the weekday dinnertime diary.)

homogenius is a long time Kossack, who has been with the site since January, 2005.  He actually came to the site earlier, during the Jeff Gannon fiasco, and he is the cofounder of KosAbility.  Like many of our fellow Kossacks, he's endured a lot of hard times, and while I don't well him well enough to say things are currently at their worst for him, they're pretty darn tough, and he could really use some help to try and play catch-up.  We ran a couple of fundraisers for him a long while back, but never made it to our admittedly high goals.

With Kossack help, he was able to get a new prosthetic leg, without which he would not be working now, but he still owes more on that.  I'll let him speak for himself below the squiggle du Kos to share just what all is going on with him atm.

It's that time of year again, time to get those kids back to school!  Sequestration is hitting hard, but we can at least get the kids the basic supplies they need to get going.  I'm jumping the gun here, since I haven't caught any other okiciyap school diaries go up yet, but the Okiciyap website at okicyap.weebly.com has a starter list up.

Those were two challenges proposed by the Jewish people to the world in the wake of unspeakable horror.  A twisted man had used scapegoating of 'others' - Jewish people, gays, intellectuals, the disabled - to whip a fearful people into accepting the losses of their freedoms and turning them into a mob bent on obliterating the 'other'.

Never Forget.  Never Again.

Those words hold a place, and a power in both the Jewish and German psyches.

As many know, despite the last few generations of my own ancestors living in America, I consider myself German-American.  The horrors unleashed by those among whom my own blood flows, is a source of shame, and those words a geas and a commandment to me and most Germans.

There's a popular series of books written by the British author Terry Pratchett about a flat earth called the Discworld.  One reason they're popular, besides the fact that Pratchett is a heckuva good writer, is that he writes stories that view our own world through an absurd and whimsical lens.  He weaves in history from our world as it might have happened if magic was real in our world, such as the invention of the printing press, or the birth of rock and roll.

Witches appeared early in the series, and show up either in cameos or as protagonists in a number of the books.  Magic in Pratchett's books is treated as powerful but unreliable, usually extracting more in cost than the results are worth.  As a result, most magic users prefer to avoid actually using magic unless they can't think of another way to do something.  In the case of witches, most have become keen students of human nature and practitioners of applied psychology.  And, of course, those who follow words know that 'Witch' derives from 'wisdom' or 'wise woman'.  A witch, therefore, even on the Discworld, is primarily a wise woman, and only secondarily a magic user.
