As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Good morning friends, and welcome to another Saturday! We made it through another week together.
When I was in third grade, far longer ago than I would like to admit, my folks bought me my first computer, a brand new Apple IIe straight off the line. That computer lasted me, until just before I left home for college in the summer of ‘92. Even the old school green on black Monitor didn’t need to be replaced. My last computer, the one I had before I was gifted with the one I am using now, lasted barely three years.
When I was thirteen, my Grandmother bought me a bedroom suite, most of which is still in use today, in the bedroom that Mom and I share. I say most, because we chose to leave the two mirrored hutches behind, one when we moved into our previous home, and one when we moved here from there. They were just too unwieldy to bother moving. The set is made of solid wood, and the worst thing I can say about the remaining pieces is that I would like to be able to refinish them.
When I started High School, I got a brand new Quickie wheelchair, painted red and black to match my high school colors. what was left of it got left behind at our old house and I have had my new one for 2 years now, and am hoping insurance will see fit to give me a new one this year, as parts of this one are beginning to wear out.
All of this is a long winded way of saying, that I remember when we could count on quality goods. Everything from furniture, to clothes, to computers and medical equipment. Where did the practice of building for quality disappear to? Why is planned obsolescence now the rule, instead of being seen for the sleazy business practice that it really is? Why don’t we as a people, hold the companies we buy from to a standard of quality any longer?
