It takes several qualities to win a Congressional race, especially for a Democrat in Central Georgia: passion, intelligence, hard work, grassroots effort, money, and a bit of luck. Here in GA-3 we have a great opportunity to replace our reprehensible Drew Ferguson (R-hidden from view) by electing a FANTASTIC candidate, Chuck Enderlin. Here’s a very short bio: Former combat active duty, current reserve Marine pilot, flies civilian for Delta, active in his local Democratic party BEFORE he ran for office. He has support and some name recognition from our area plus he’s begun to earn national endorsements from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, the Sustainable Politician Project, and #VoteProChoice organizations.
Chuck has all the personal qualities listed above, plus he’s putting together a top-notch general election campaign staff. He has a cadre of dedicated volunteers that keeps expanding. He has been all over this district to meet with anyone and everyone, including the ruby-red portion of the district. The only thing Chuck is short of is cash. I don’t count the luck because as a Marine combat vet, Chuck is used to making his own luck.
What makes this race within Chuck’s reach is something that I haven’t heard anyone discuss anywhere: local Republican and Independent voters’ disgust with Drew Ferguson, who hasn’t had a real townhall ever.
This district is truly only considered ruby red because Lynn Westmoreland held the seat forever. When Ferguson inherited the Republican mantle, he slid in on those coattails. But now, the voters in this district have had a chance to get to know Drew Ferguson. They don’t like him very much which culminated in Drew losing 25% of the Republican primary vote to a candidate who LITERALLY didn’t spend any time or money in his race. A complete unknown took 25% of the primary vote.
Chuck Enderlin is poised to capitalize on the district’s dislike and distrust of Ferguson. He has spent a great deal of time talking with Republicans, Democrats, and Independents in the district who cannot contact their representative directly nor do they see him in the district. Chuck’s not apologizing for his progressive beliefs, but he is concentrating on areas where they overlap with district voters. Like Connor Lamb, Chuck Enderlin fits his district.
Take a look at this local video to get a preview of the passion he brings. Then take a look at his page Chuck Enderlin for Congress. You can reach him on Twitter at @VoteChuckEnderlin.
