I was wrong.
This is just me venting right now.
Donald Trump is not a politician and I hate to tell you all that this is NOT a good thing.
I thought the way most thought when Donald Trump announced his presidency. Seriously? People are going to think this is such a joke... he has no chance, I thought to myself.
However, to my surprise and to every other presumably sane person in America's surprise, he is now the face of the Republican party (*sympathetically pats the distressed elephant on the back*).
I thought America would see the hypocrisy, the narcissism, the blatant disregard for the general public's values and well-being. I thought the fact that Trump is not only a far worse candidate than Hillary Clinton, but ever-so-clearly the worse candidate ever to sneak his way into American politics.. was obvious.
It is not.
The Right has done an absolutely amazing job of discrediting her over the past 20 years. However, this time not only does the Republican party lobby against her, but they have conviced those who typically affiliate themselves with the democratic party to do the same. Moreover, many of these same people also sincerely feel Hillary is, in fact, somehow worse than Trump. This is just something that does not make any sense to me.
Let me be clear. I voted for Bernie Sanders... and I was under the impression I was voting for Bernie for the same reasons every other Bernie supporters were voting for him. I have recently learned that this is not the case. I'm not exactly sure why the Bernie supporters, particularly the #BernieOrBust people, supported Bernie Sanders specifically. I would ask those I knew and they gave me one vague issue they agreed with him on in addition to the fact that he was not Clinton or Trump... and I think many might agree that a one issue voter has no business voting at all... if voting in America were only as fair as that might sound. I, like many political junkies, have been following Bernie Sanders for before many (who generally might not follow politics) even knew who the radical Vermont senator was. That being said, I am SO proud of the work Bernie has done. Bernie has pushed and publicly advocated an agenda that many young people found exciting and one they could identify with and it is something that should be recognized. Bernie got his message out and his name will NOT be forgotten. He is and always has been a voice of the people and I have no shred of doubt in my mind that this wonderful and inspirational man will keep fighting for the American people, as he has done his entire political career.
To be frank, we, America, have been dealt an extremely undesirable hand here. We see what we are left with and instead of being excited for our candidates, we tremble in fear for the future. It's really discouraging, but it is all we have.
My biggest issue as of right now are those in my own party who seem so spend more time bashing the face of the party instead of the orange monster in the party we are running against. Listen, I understand that anyone could technically be written in, but Bernie Sanders has conceded to Hillary Clinton and I will be the one hundredth person to say that it sucks, especially when it truly felt as though Bernie not only had a legitimate chance, but that favoritism toward Clinton certainly played a role. Not only that, but someone recently made a great point in telling me when someone in politics has been in the public eye for as long as Hillary Clinton has, people get sick of seeing the same face. I think this was one of the reasons people were so excited when Obama first ran, aside form having one of the most successful campaigns in American History.
I digress.
We must understand what is at stake here. We have a candidate whose fuse is so small, he is willing to criticize the parents of a fallen soldier. He throws a temper tantrum when he is called out on his rude narcissistic behavior by going on twitter and posting a fifth grade insult. He asked a foreign policy expert, not once, not twice, but three times, why nuclear weapons could not have been used during a national security breach. He kicked a woman with a crying infant out of his rally because it was interrupting his speech. He is the only candidate in American history who is refusing to release his tax return. He has very openly slut shamed woman suggesting a woman who has small breast cannot be a "10". A federal judge ruled that Trump must face a trail for FRAUD in a Trump University case with evidence suggesting he completely scammed people. He openly welcomed Russia, currently our enemy, to infiltrate American intelligence. Vladimir Putin completely endorses Trump as president because he knows how easily he can manipulate him by feeding into his ego. The only demographic of people in which Trump leads is white men. He has absolutely no minority vote because he unifies absolutely no one. He plans to both kick minorities out and ban anyone else he doesn't like from getting into America. This man has absolutely no business serving America in the most powerful job on the planet.
What is even more astounding is that half of America actually fell for this. Donald Trump successfully manipulated his way into the Republican nomination by just being a simplistic bully and putting other candidates down and bragging about commercial victories that have absolutely nothing to do with what he plans to do once he is president. There were 16 people running for the party and NOT ONE could manage to take him down (a big thanks to the media for that one*)
While Hillary has plenty of flaws, again, we must to be mindful of what is at stake here... Donald Trump is a national security risk to the United States by even making comments asking why we are not able to use nuclear weapons "if we have them". He is a national embarrassment and I sincerely feel myself and everyone else in sincere danger if he is President. He DOES NOT deserve to be the face that represents this country and it's ideals. HE is a monster and HE should be the target of EVERYONE'S ridicule and criticism. HE SHOULD be condemned for every vile word that escapes his giant mouth and held accountable for disgusting comments that any other candidate would have been disqualified for. HE has been condemned by fellow republican leaders for his repulsive disposition simply because he is IN NO WAY a representation of the republican party or America. Hillary is not our first pick, but Trump should be our very, very, VERY last. He has turned this election into a circus.
Everyone should be united in making sure that Donald Trump is most definitively the "loser" of this race for the White House. Donald Trump DOES NOT want to make America great again. He wants to sit in the seat only 44 bright men have had the esteemed privilege to sit in no matter how good or bad for the country they might have turned out to be. We, the people, must not let this man represent us... we are better than to elect a former reality show host as the 45th President of the United States.
The American people have been dealt a very unfortunate hand of final candidates this time around. The problem is I never actually thought I would have to explain to people why stopping someone like Trump is priority above all else. I thought it was obvious and I was wrong. But I will be damned if I ever call that lying orange woman-shaming narcissistic sociopath my president.
Until I'm blue in the face, #NeverTrump.
