The Democratic Party should again be funding its workers to go door-to-door asking what problems the family is facing and how the Party can directly help in some way or facilitate connecting them with existing safety net assistance — like they used to.
TRUTH, in 1952 when I was 10, a worker from the local Democratic club visited. Immigrants from Puerto Rico, my mom, (a seamstress) and pop (a proud WW2 vet then a restaurant worker)...asked for help to somehow escape the rat-infested tenement we were living in ( a rat bit me at age 3 there ). The folks at the club, active locals, quickly got us placed into a newly-built public housing apartment . Our quality of life increased immensely. We were so happy. After that my parents spoke frequently about how the Democratic party helped poor working people improve their lives.
GOING OUT OF THEIR OFFICES AND HELPING FAMILIES ON A ONE-BY-ONE BASIS CREATED LOYALTY TO THE PARTY. My parents have since made sure to vote in EVERY election - “right down the Democratic line” as my father used to say, and as I and my family do now.
Let’s get our party to use our financial contributions working to benefit us. To put boots on the ground, on a face-to-face basis, to help people improve their and their families’ lives.
People naturally respond to this type of kindness / assistance and will — without badgering - spontaneously vote for what they know will be in their own interest, ….vote for our Democratic candidates.
