The “U.S. Chamber of Commerce” has been bombarding the Idaho airwaves and internet spaces with ads slamming plaintiffs, lawyers and lawsuits. These ads refer to “junk lawsuits” and are in run in support of Idaho Representative Mike Simpson. He is in a primary fight with Tea partier and lawyer Bryan Smith.
They both suck. Simpson is a Boehner Acolyte and Smith is, well, a tea partier supported by Count Chocola, and all those Club for Growth types. At least Smith believes in the 7th Amendment though. Us trial lawyers care about that.
And the ads are false, misleading and offensive to anyone who has had to seek justice through the courts in Idaho. This is the type of false garbage that makes people hate politics and politicians.
I suppose I could link to the ad, but why give it any more play? You can find it if you want to see it.
The ads show the US Chamber cares nothing about citizen's fundamental right to a jury trial (you know the 'ol 7th Amendment) the US or Idaho Constitution. The ads are, to use a technical term, “Horse pucky.” As discussed below, actual Idaho research shows real Idaho juries and jurors are responsible and. to the limited extent it exists, junk litigation does not get anywhere.
