This is what I posted on FB today. It seemed to resonate with many so I’m sharing here:
To the Trump supporters asking for me to unite with them - I will not. I will not unite with you behind a man who openly admits to sexually assaultIng women or makes sweeping generalizations about minorities in this country.
What I will do is be vigilant in watching this new President. I will fight for what I believe and I will base my arguments on facts. I will not post memes based on fake news stories, lies or physical appearances. I will demand facts, evidence, and data from you to support your arguments. I will not tolerate hearsay and false equivalence from either side. I will post about policy that effects my family, my friends, my community, and my environment. I will get my information from multiple sources and keep network news off of my TV. I will be the first to admit if I was wrong.
I have watched people over the last eight years post the most vile things about President and Michelle Obama. Hateful, untrue, vile things. You lost your credibility with me. The Obamas have represented this country with dignity and strength In the face of extraordinary adversity. When you find it ok that our President-elect brags about grabbing a woman's p***** because he can, you can no longer claim the party of faith and family values or denigrate the Obama family who have been an inspiration to so many.
After 8 years of George W. Bush during which we saw the most deadly terrorist attack on US soil, went into a war based on lies, and watched as our country descended into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, so many of you doubled down on the Republican Party and opposed everything that Obama proposed claiming he was a socialist and demanding a birth certificate, none of which was relevant or helpful at one of the most critical times in our nations history.
You own this new President and Congress. No excuses. None.
I will work to make this country a better place, but I will do it in a productive way that hopefully encourages open dialogue without hate or fear mongerIng. That is how I hope we will find unity.
