As many of you know my regular gig here at DKos, when I'm not filling in for TexDem, is a monthly diary showcasing the photographs taken by they White House Photography staff.

For this weeks Mojo Diary I thought I'd feature some of the videos that the White House staff put together. If you go to WhiteHouse.gov and click on the 1600 Penn tab you land on their page dedicated to the White House and how things function. There are interactive tours, floor plans, information about the art that is displayed and information about the history of the White House and other buildings on the grounds.

The other thing that is featured in the 1600 Penn section are videos of behind the scenes day to day operations.

Bob's iPhone Photography

I realized the other day that I haven't posted a diary of my iPhone photos for quite some time, mid 2013 was the last time. So here are some random images that I've taken since '13. If you'd like to see all of my favorite shots that I've taken with my iPhone you can see them at BobsiPhonePhotography.com

This is a shot I got on my morning walk around school (I'm a teacher). We have lots of ivy growing up the walls around campus.

noun
fear or a phobia concerning the number 13.
Didn't we just have a Friday the 13th diary last month? Why yes, yes we did. In fact Friday the 13th will happen three times this year. November 13th will be the third. Friday the 13th trilogies are actually not that uncommon, the last occurring in 2009 and the next will be in 2026, then again in 2037. There is a pattern but it involves calendar math, it's Friday, who has the time or patients for calendar math? If you'd like to learn more try visiting this blog post.

What does this have to do with President Franklin D. Roosevelt? Turns out President Roosevelt suffered from triskaidekaphobia. The President did not like to travel on Friday the 13th.

Journalist and Roosevelt biographer John Gunther wrote, “Like most people with good luck, FDR was moderately—not excessively—superstitious. He hated Friday the thirteenth, he would never start an important trip on a Friday if he could help it, and he disliked sitting down with thirteen at dinner.”
So much for, “let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself..."

Franklin D. Roosevelt died on Thursday, April 12, 1945, so maybe 13 wasn't out to get him after all.

I post a monthly diary highlighting the pictures taken for the previous month by the White House Photography staff lead by Pete Souza (an archive of those past diaries can me found here). Pete has posted his annual album of his favorite pictures of the year. I thought I'd take the opportunity to choose some of my favorite from his selections. As always I encourage you to click through and check out all of the pictures he has posted when you have the time. You can view his entire Year in Photos 2014 album here.

"Sometimes a unique angle makes all the difference. Lawrence Jackson scouted out a balcony position in the New Executive Office Building to photograph the President as he signed H.R. 3547, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014, which at the time provided fiscal year 2014 appropriations."

I've seen this image posted several times here on DKos. Credit for the sign goes to: Sign seen recently by Kossack foresterbob in Alpine, Texas.

I thought this was such a good idea that I created a bumper sticker sized sign that anyone can use. Download it and use it as a small sign, print it on adhesive backed paper and make your own bumper sticker, whatever works best for you.

I used the same font and color scheme that the DNC used in one of the last presidential elections.
