With the permanent supermajority that the GOP have enshrined for themselves via supreme gerrymander, the ballot initiative process is the last chance that We the People have to affect the laws of our state. So Frank LaRose, GP SoS and future senate candidate, calls a special August election to make Ohio a single-party rule state by taking ballot initiatives away from the population. I think that most DK readers know all of this. But here’s an interesting wrinkle in their evil plot. My daughter turns 18 on August 4th, just in time to vote in this stupid special election. I told her to register to vote in late June because the deadline for registration for this election was July 11th. So she did what any Gen-Z person would do. She Googled “register to vote Ohio” and was directed to LaRose’s SoS registration system. She filled out the form and was informed after submission that it would be forwarded to the Hamilton County (Cincinnati) Board of Elections. Well, we just checked her registration status and she’s not in the database. Apparently, the SoS didn’t forward the registration of an 18yo urban voter to the county in time for her to vote against the GOP’s naked power grab. I wonder why?
UPDATE: I just had enough thought. Perhaps her registration won’t go live until she turns 18 on Friday because she’s can’t early vote on issues until she is actually 18? Does anybody know if this is the case?
