I had one of those "Wha... OMG!... this cannot be!" moments a couple days ago when I stumbled onto a short video gem, a diamond in the rough by virtue of having only (+/-) 20,000 views. Two days later---it's been averaging 1,000 views/hour and now has nearly 100,000 views!

A quality animation and analysis from the smart folks at University of California Berkeley and The Blum Center for Developing Economies.

It's extraordinary improv art from The #GlobalPOV Project. Extraordinary in both its messaging and its artistic style combining critical social theory, improv art and digital media that explore innovative ways of thinking about poverty, inequality and undertaking poverty action.

It's worth every minute of it's 13 minute play time.

Summary and additional info about the video and the project below the squiggly.

I thought the seven minute video (below) was worth every minute.

I assumed others might appreciate it too.

Rest in Peace Fred McFeely Rogers (March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003)

from wiki:

Rogers received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, some forty honorary degrees, and a Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, was recognized by two Congressional resolutions, and was ranked No. 35 among TV Guide's Fifty Greatest TV Stars of All Time. Several buildings and artworks in Pennsylvania are dedicated to his memory, and the Smithsonian Institution displays one of his trademark sweaters as a "Treasure of American History".
Youtube's caption:
In 1969, Fred Rogers appeared before the United States Senate Subcommittee on Communications. His goal was to support funding for PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, in response to significant proposed cuts by President Nixon.

BREAKING UPDATE: Fri Feb 10, 2012 at  9:34 AM PT:

OCCUPY SEATTLE DEMOBILIZES:

"... After refusing the Bobby D show's offer of an interview spot conditional upon their non-appearance at the Powell funeral, Fred Phelps contacted Bobby and gave an interview this morning and has promised to not come to the funeral."

"They have now announced on Twitter

that their Washington trip has been cancelled."

"Organizers of the Occupy Seattle response to Westboro Baptist Church's threat of demonstration at the Powell funeral are relieved to announce that our shielding action is no longer necessary.

In lieu of attending this action, we ask that you donate to The Charlie and Braden Powell Memorial Account at any Wells Fargo bank branch. The proceeds will go to defray costs of the memorial service.

The organizers of this action want to thank all who intended to attend for their compassion, enthusiasm, and good will. However, now is a time of mourning and a time for celebration of the lives of two very special little boys. In that spirit, We hope and pray that the Cox and Powell families can heal in the aftermath of this terrible tragedy. Our hearts and our thoughts are with them."

UPDATE: 4:02 PM PT: MSNBC reported:  "More than 1,800 people had sounded off on Facebook pledging to join Occupy Seattle in showing up at a counterprotest at Life Center Church in Tacoma, south of Seattle."
This dairy's author believes the substantial threat of OCCUPY SEATTLE (and various other groups joining Occupy Seattle) in the area having organized in this shielding action actually did in fact shield this innocent grieving family from the Westboro Baptist Church's abhorrent message of hate. Thank you OCCUPY SEATTLE.

My apologizes in advance if this has been previously posted. Youtube has "age restricted" the video for its protest violence. (You'll need to register an account with Youtube to verify your +18 age.) For those not wanting a Youtube account the vid is posted otherwise without requirements: (thanks to DrFood for the link): I AM NOT MOVING (NOT a Youtube link)

This just into my email inbox today from Jane Hamsher, with FiredogLake, (FDL) obviously related to a contribution I previously made, after reading this excellent dairy:

Want Outstanding Reporting and Analysis? Support Marcy Wheeler by Dana Houle Fri Apr 24, 2009

Jane's note reads...

"...Today the Sidney Hillman Foundation announced that Marcy Wheeler received the prestigious Hillman Award for her investigative work.  Other recipients include Jane Mayer, author of The Dark Side, and New York Times journalist Steve Greenhouse.

In giving Marcy the award, The Hillman Foundation singled out her groundbreaking work on the CIA leak case, her liveblogging at the Scooter Libby trial in 2007, and her coverage of Alberto Gonzales and warrantless wiretapping.  They also note that Marcy's reporting about Khalid Sheik Mohammed being waterboarded 183 times in one month wound up on the front page of the New York Times."

In an article, written early 2008, Jim Giles, in the New Scientist explores potential scientific basis for differences in people with affinities to either a liberal or a conservative ideology: "Are Political Leanings All in the Genes?"which I stumbled onto cross-posted at The Center for Genetics and Society (CGS.)

Admittedly, I add little analysis in this, my second and noobie diary posting. After searching dkos for a number of key words, it appears the original article may have missed mention (?)
