Oh, Oklahoma you noticed!

by grandma blue

I don't write very many diaries on here. I can count them on one hand. Oklahoma is not the liberal belt buckle of this nation to say the least. I had to write this one. I was sent this little PDF this afternoon, it was being passed on a social site. I took a deep breath, when I seen the author was a well known Republican in our state. We are famous here for passing legislation that is laced with religion and tea stains. Those from both sides of the fence, are now aware of the pain being inflicted on those who are most needy in this state. I will not lie this made my day and yes, maybe my whole week. The red majority can not push this off on those few crazy liberals in this state. I hope they try, so we can make them aware this is from a conservative. I could not fight the urge, so I went over to Mary Fallin's FB page and posted it. Maybe there is hope. Here it is below the squiggle!

I sit here at this computer wishing I had the right words to tell the rest of America what it is like to live in a Republican state. What comes to mind is right to work for low wages, federal, state, and local programs that help low income people are being slashed. LIHEAP, the primary program that helps with utility bills was cut fifty percent. The state’s personal income tax exemption, sales tax credit, and the earned income credit all of which benefit low income people, are programmed for abolition. The number of households reporting “very low food security” rose to 7.5%, up from 4.7% 2005-2007, an increase of 60%. Oklahoma ranks 46th in Education. Now to top it off we have our Republican governor making sure those who need medical care don't receive it. She says it would limit money for education and public safety. I would laugh, if I could get through these tears.

Bob Waldrop wrote "The real message of Governor Mary Queen of Lynch Mobs Fallin’s action today in rejecting the Medicaid expansion is that Collapse is coming. The Ship of State is sinking and there isn't enough room in the lifeboats for everyone. First people to be shoved off the decks without life-preservers are the poor."
Bob is the founder of the Oscar Romero Catholic Worker House in Oklahoma City. He spends most of his time working to improve the lives of those less fortunate. Bob and I have some differences over some issues, however we agree on the death sentence our governor just gave many of Oklahoma's poor. Here is what he had to say about what our governor decided, below the art.

Jeremy was the father to three girls. He was 36 at the time of his death. He had a heart problem and needed a valve replacement. As with all care for those who are unemployed, without health insurance or with insurance provided in this state, instead of this operation being done when he might receive life saving treatment that would benefit him, it was left until it was so severe it was done as an emergency procedure. For the millions in this country who now use their local ER's as their primary care physician, this story is repeated many times over. Jeremy's Aunt is a dear friend to our family. She works three jobs just to keep her head above water. Jeremy's Mom also works more than one job, to survive. They pay more in taxes than do many of the 1%. The pain we feel for this family is immense. Below I am going to provide you with some posts made by Jeremy's Aunt as well as other facts about what Jeremy endured. Jeremy fought hard to live. Each day I log on to read about OWS, it has been the light at the end of the tunnel for so many who are suffering. Those of us who are not able to afford the gas or the time off of work to participate wish we were there with those who are fighting for us all. I thank each of you and am looking at a way to provide those in rural areas a way to get to their local occupy site. If anyone has an idea, post below.

It is to the point where, I do not want to watch the news or read the paper. I think I may be joining the ranks of the whining babies, I have seen mentioned on here. I am close to that point. I care for my husband who is most of the time bed ridden, except on good days. I care for him at home. If I were to work it would cost me my whole check to pay someone to come in and care for him. His doctors told me to not leave him home alone. I live with guilt of doing just that on a good day, leaving the phone next to him so I can check on him. He gets SS and Medicare, we are 22 dollars over the limit for medicaid as well as food stamps. This has made me somewhat of an expert on these programs, not by choice. I get out twice a month to volunteer at the local food bank. My daughter or one of my grandchildren cover for me on these days. Last week I contracted to clean toilets, really bathrooms.  I did this to help my daughter buy school supplies for her daughters.  She gets no child support, so she must do it all on her own. Enforcement doesn't help unless you are on TANIF in this state, go figure.

I now see LIHEAP is being cut?  It was cut here last year and I would guess again this year. I am looking at heating our house with a wood stove this year. I see what passed in the debt reduction. No increase in taxes, but cuts to the life lines that help keep our heads above water as soon as the twelve work it out or not..

Many write about class war, I laugh as it is turning into class annihilation.  War my rear, how do the sick, the hungry, the disabled and the unemployed wage war? I see them every two weeks, as I am handing out food. I can get on here, thanks to my sister who pays the provider and the used computer I was given. When President Obama ran for office, I had such hope. I made calls, went from door to door and talked to many people. I live in a state so red it bleeds. I have done some heavy soul searching, what makes the thousands like me want to vote for him again? I have seen more fight in the elderly women who work at the food bank. By the way, the local food bank lost it's main contributor and may have to close in a couple of months. One may ask if this will lead to class warfare or just all out war. The President may ask himself what he is doing for those at the bottom. Where are the jobs?? Where is the President I voted for??

Guess this is a big enough whine. I know I am not alone, there are hundreds in my part of this state. It has passed the point of a job or not, when jobs are part time and low wages, they too now stand in the food line about to dry up. It just mystifies me to see those in Washington saying we must create jobs, while they are on vacation. This would of been great news last year. I get ill when I see articles on here about how smart the President is with his lay back methods. While he is analyzing and making a plan of action, many are dying, going hungry, living on the street and living with no heat or cooling.  You don't see them on here as they don't have computers or money for a provider. Many don't have hot water, heating, cooling and yes even a home to live in. Our little recession is worse than the depression your Dad talked about. Now for all you stat people, I will add some below as well as a few articles. Sure hope tomorrow I will have a better outlook on life. To those fine Christians on the right, Bachmann and Perry, they may think about standing in front of those gates one day, I have a feeling no matter how much money they have there will be no going through them.

Living the rural life in Oklahoma and being a liberal has it's hardships.  It has just gone from a little crazy, to full blown insane.  I have for a few years worked on a animal use and ownership fight here.  The insanity has just topped out.  The list I was on just took a new twist. The owner of this list just went from ownership and use to taking it to the Tea Party as the only way along with opinions from a Oklahoma Tea Party member with great ties to the John Birch Society.  When I voiced opposition, they threw in the Oath Keepers.  Anyone who voices opposition to the homophobic, racist, violent rants are now traitors and liars. This has went so far as the list owner threatening me. What next the ladies knitting club online?  I sit here and ask how violent are these people?
Here is a little e-mail they sent me;

Your "progressive" agenda is to push socialism onto America and if Americans citizen's stand up and start pushing back because they refuse to accept your socialist "progressive" agenda then you accuse them of being racist, bigots, violent war lovers, anarchist and starting the fight you were pushing onto them.

You need to smarten up and realize, you can quit pushing your socialistic "progressive" agenda anytime you want, before YOU start the war that will surely come  if you don't stop.

I will admit I told them I thought violence was not called for as well as racist comments.  When one goes to war with their own country, just what is it called? I would figure the call to pick up arms, just that.  I disagree and it is my fault, I started a war?

These people are telling me verbal disagreement is grounds for a war in this country?   They have been picking out Republican as well as Democrat Representatives to replace. They want Tea Party, John Birch Society and Oath Keepers as Oklahoma's Representatives. They let you know right away who they are going for and it amounts to anyone who does not think exactly like they do.
 Here is another little diddy from an e-mail;

Of course there is one person (my name) on my e-mail list that is far left and I guess she is for gay marriage and bringing more homosexuals from CA and into OK as the State Chamber of Commerce is advocating for state policies to do. And she's also for promoting the idea that my government can take my money from me and redistribute it other people "that don't have as much or want to work as hard as I do" you know the "less fortunate" of course that's the "Progressive" agenda = a socialist America.
Now I have read what Charlie Meadows has written and spoken with him several times and he is not a violent person and does not advocate violence but just tells the honest truth, that if our elected government leaders do not stop this "progressive socialist" agenda from both parties then there will be a civil war created and started by these socialist progressives as they continue to assault and attack liberty and strip Americans of our freedoms. He is  not nor is anyone else in the TEA Party advocating for violence we are just telling our legislators of the truth and relaying the sentiments and the fear held by the majority of Americans of what will happen if our elected officials don't stand up and stop this "progressive socialist" agenda of people like (my name).

The fear?  Yes they are the ones who spin the fear. I just had to get this off my chest and here is where I come to do it. I ask myself is this a new strategical movement on behalf of the Tea Party?  Infiltrate other causes to make them their own?  One thing is very apparent, the Tea Party, John Birch Society and the Oath Keepers are working Oklahoma to the max and they are doing it together.

I have more concern as I have seen this on other lists for those who live in rural Oklahoma. It appears to be an all out campaign to take over Oklahoma State government by these nuts.

I am not afraid to continue opposition to this garbage and just wish I had the brains of some of those who write on here. I monitor this crazy list now, not saying much because I am just shell shocked at all of this.  I have sent some articles to this list when he sends me one of his e-mails. He then says I hijacked his list. I have told him don't send them to me then. Yes, I am guilty of hitting respond to all.

I guess I have attained the title of left wing radical, lol.  He refers to me as that in his posts. This all just makes me want to cry, can there be so many violent nuts like this in Oklahoma?  I am just a Great Grandma trying to insure a better life for her grandchildren.

This morning while checking my e-mail I noticed one from a list I belong to in Oklahoma where we at times have heated political discussions. Seeing this post was from a republican of course I opened it. Her message to the list said it all. She wrote:

This is just unbelievable. I don't know which embarrasses me the most;
my voter's registration card which says Republican or telling people I
am from Oklahoma.

Living in this big red state is at times a chore, just to survive. I read the article she posted in amazement, could this be a joke? No, it is not a joke but a truly ignorant move by republicans in this state. Every two weeks I stand at a local food bank handing out food in a rural community. Nutritional requirements in Oklahoma are at a all time low for those who are lower income families. My nightmare is very sick and under nourished infants. How could the republicans in Oklahoma care so little about the most at risk among us? I am in shock right now. I am sure to be on the phone today!
In a shocking story out of Oklahoma, a Republican state representative amended a senior nutrition bill to slash funding for the Women Infants and Children (WIC) health program, by refusing to allow nine independent contractors to distribute federally funded nutrition and food vouchers to low-income mothers.

The fear that grips, mind control

by grandma blue

In a past diary I wrote about Oklahoma state question 755. Well it passed and I am expecting deportation off all Muslims in Oklahoma soon. Just kidding about that, however I wonder what is behind the fear based mind set in Oklahoma. Three questions passed here and all appear to be unconstitutional. So for the red bible thumping state, it was a win for those who govern. I am amazed how many who live here feed on the fear. Just scare the b-jesus out of them and they will fall in line like little sheep. Takes the hassle out of supplying them with fact and intellectual basis for any thought process.  I said to Grandpa, are you going to pull up those signs in front of the farm today? He said, no I may keep them there till they fade. His way of protesting, both were democrats who lost in this election, they refused to capture the vote with fear. Below are the questions that passed, go figure.

Sharia law in Oklahoma

by grandma blue

Sitting on my small farm in Oklahoma, the realization Oklahoma must defend it's self from sharia law has come to my attention. Yes, that is what I said, seems state question 755 up for a vote is getting lots of play by the Oklahoma republicans. This eye opener started about a week ago on a Oklahoma list I am on. It is a list where you can discuss politics and just about anything. It was set up to be a no rules list, so it gets very lively. You will need to disregard my diary structure as I am new at this. Just an old grandma from Oklahoma. It started with this post below.
