My well meaning friends sent some information my way last week, both published in the local papers. The first one was quite amusing by way of irony.
From the Charlotte Sun: Fla. Campaign Targets Signs of Child Abuse

My comment (no, I couldn't resist) was longer than the article. I have been reporting abuse of my granddaughter for 19 mos. now. Nobody does a damn thing about it. I wonder why, if DCF is so understaffed and underfunded, would they be trolling for new cases. Because they neglect to do anything about the ones who have already been reported. Nevermind. The next day I checked and my comment had disappeared.
The second article made me laugh out loud.

What was so funny about this one is that I gave the SCSO a copy of my daughter's Facebook page 18 mos. ago. Her friends are all she and her boyfriend's clients and there are 100's of them. So it took 5 divisions 10 mos to get 29 perps with a total of of less than 9,000 pills between them. Narcotics Diversion units caught them filling scripts from an Englewood pharmacy. Big deal. My daughters boyfriend was arrested a few years ago, and he was spilling his guts to the cop before he was placed in the car. If he were followed for a month by an undercover or confidential informant he would lead them to 10 times as many people. And lots more drugs.
What really burns me about all this is that it would be easy to rescue my granddaughter and I know this to be fact. How? Well, I know lots of people. We tell stories. Matter of fact, you could say that's what I do for a living. And I hear it all, like whose raising their grandkids because they tested + to illegal drugs. Or who is or was arrested from a bust (and how the bust went down). So I know what can and has been done.
The other stories are about the grandkids who are physically, developmentally and neurologically damaged. Like the 3 yr. old with the bleeding ulcer. Or the 2 yr. old who suffered a stroke at the age of 7 mos. The 10 yr. old who is a chronic thief and liar and calls her grandma a bitch (her parents taught her that). The woman whose son and daughter-in-law shotgun their son (I don't think the exposure is limited to grass by the way she describes her son's explosive temper and diet). The retired couple raising their 20 yr old grandson who is functioning at the level of a three yr. old. The elementary school teachers who witness the 6 yr. old twin girls french kissing each other while they are waiting for the bus to go home. These are my friends, colleagues, clients. Hundreds of us. All waiting for law enforcement, DCF and court judges to do what our tax dollars pay them to do and save our children. And all these kids have in common is drugs.
I am not personally fond of our war on drugs or the way it is waged. A large part of the problem is lack of action. I've read many intelligent suggestions and awesome input regarding the drug problem and how to solve it. But my grandchild, and thousands of other children, don't have time for social experiments. They don't have time for corruption investigations, psych evaluations of their parents or debates about bonding and "breaking up the family". Their parents need to be stopped. The children require rescue. Yesterday.
