Note: These are older photos, our fall color has been gone for a few weeks now. Thanks!
Whenever we can, we like to go out in our canoe & explore new areas :) One of our trips was on the Paint River located in Iron County here in Upper Michigan. The Paint runs through Iron County joining with the Brule River at the Wisconsin/Upper Michigan border between Florence, WI & Crystal Falls, MI. There are two main rapids on the Paint, the Hemlock & the Horserace. We canoed out & camped on an island approximately a half mile below Horserace Rapids. On the drive down to the put-in, we actually had two wolves cross the road ahead of us, unfortunately they were too fast for me to get a photo of them.
There are hiking trails down to Horserace Rapids but we didn't see a single person the entire three days we were there, no motorboats, no other canoeists, we had the place totally to ourselves. We traveled upriver to the base of Horserace, the water was low so we were able to get fairly close. We could hear the rapids rushing at all times & at night, you could hear wolves howling from different directions which added a wild & cool dimension to the trip. The weather cooperated for the most part except for one cloudy afternoon & evening but only a few raindrops fell.
Being out in nature feeds my soul & brings me such total peace. I hope you enjoy the photos.
