I haven't seen this make the rounds here, but it's been all over social media, so I thought I'd post something about it here. My apologies if it has been covered. This relates to the national conversation we should be having about our police. Specifically, it's the point of view of one of our law enforcement officers, followed by my response.
More below the fleur de Kos.
At 7:15 AM CT, I opened Daily Kos to find the story at the top of the front page was the Abbreviated Pundit Roundup. The theme of the Roundup? How CNN is a joke because of their fixation on the George Zimmerman trial during historic events in Egypt.
And here was the rec list:

I've often thought there should be an alternative to GBCW (Goodbye Cruel World) diaries and TTFN (Ta Ta For Now) diaries. A different kind of mission statement, if you will. Like the GCBW and TTFN, it would affirm and attitude toward Daily Kos and kossacks as a whole. Like the GBCW and TTFN, it would send a message, one intended to not only to declare one's position but also intended as a one-size-fits-all universal statement about the state of the site, it's visitors, their interactions, and the diarist's views on each.
The GBCW diary typically exists to settle scores, burn bridges, or bemoan the deplorable state of affairs. There are exceptions, of course, but not many.
The TTFN diary is more versatile, from a popular diarist letting people know that they'll be temporarily out of the loop - for any number of reasons that reflect well on the diarist - to the "I Need A Break" TTFN, which serves as a more ephemeral version of the GBCW, a public scolding or weary lament.
I want to propose (and write) a different sort of diary.
The YCMML: You Can't Make Me Leave.
Moron in an online public forum: I don't understand why gay people have to be in your face about their sexuality all the time! I don't go around announcing my heterosexuality to everyone!
Me: You just did, dumbass.

It gets old, doesn't it? It gets sooooooo old. We've all been there (and by "we", I mean people with a healthy view of guns) (and by "healthy", I mean we're willing to talk about regulation and don't use bickering over irrelevant minutiae like cartridge power or lack of a threaded barrel to deflect attention from the larger point, which is no more dead children)-- Sorry. I digress. Angrily.
Back to the point: repetitive talking points. It's getting to be like arguing with a forced-birther, especially on social media. The more fixated and fetish-driven of our gun-owning friends (you know who I'm talking about; the hardcore, I'm-gonna-start-killin-people-YouTube-video-making ones) can spit out the same, shop-worn talking points on command, and often do so rapid-fire, leaving you buried in a cross between word salad and half-baked-idea jambalaya. And what the hell do you do with that mess?
Well, if they're just going to be boring and repetitive, you might as well join them. So, as a public service, I've decided to write down some convenient anti-talking-point talking points. All you have to do is memorize a few key phrases, and you can turn back to your regular life with a minimum of commitment to the gun puppy yapping at your feet.

Okay, I get that seeing Scott Walker and most of his creepy crew sleaze back into office with a wink at their rich friends and a sneer at the people of Wisconsin, but can we stop with the OMG IT'S OVER mantra?
I live in Wisconsin, and I have to suffer the assholery of Walker, too - even more than most, as he's already slashed benefits I need (not want; need) - but I still feel like there's a big picture some people are missing.
Allow me to make a few points on this below the fluer-de-Kos...
I don't sleep much anymore. 3-4 hours a day, and it is usually during the day.
The night is full of noise. In the small hours, all my closest friends come to visit: Anger, Sadness, Despair, Anxiety, Pain. My leg hurts. It always hurts. Never ceases: deep, dull ache, sharp, repeating stabs, prickling, skin so sensitive the lightest touch is a burning matchstick. Who can sleep with all that racket?

I was inspired by this awesome diary (More Myths That Are Killing Us) to work toward the same goal from the opposite direction; i.e. list a few, simple truths that can make us (as a nation) stronger.
Of course, I don't expect everyone will accept them as truths, but that has never stopped me. Give me your suggestions/feedback/uninterested silence after the fleur-de-Kos.
In this awesome diary, kossack Kaili Joy Gray wrote up 80's has-been and X-tian footsoldier Kirk Cameron's latest round of hate-with-a-vacuous-smile, calling homosexuality "unnatural" and "detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."
This morning, Today - that paragon of unflinching, credible journalism - gave Kirk "I Don't Hate Unnatural, Detrimental, And Civilization-Destroying Homos" Cameron a national stage for his ever-repugnant brand of "loving the sinner".
My replies to Kirk's explanations below the fleur-de-kos.
This is a response diary, but I want to make it clear from the get-go that it's not a (in this case literal) She Said/He Said.
The diary in question is this one, a righteous rant by someone who was outraged by a blatant "fuck you" to women in the form a of a commercial aired during the Melissa Harris-Perry Show on MSNBC (with the topic of the show at the time being the war against women).
This response is more about the product in the ad than anything else. A lot of people seemed to be confused as to what it was. Below the fleur-de-kos is more info.
Anthony John Makk's expulsion from the US has been ordered. His seven-year marriage to Bradford Wells was not considered "a petitionable relationship". "For a relationship to qualify as a marriage for purposes of federal law, one partner must be a man and the other a woman," the US Citizenship and Immigration Services decided.
But wait; there's more...
I understand. He's the President - of a nation divided, deprived, and desperate. People want leadership. They want hope. They want someone to represent them, their interests, and the interests and well-being of their loved ones.
Of course there is polarization and widely varied opinion. Of course there is strong, strident, and stubborn rhetoric. After all, he's the most important figure in the ongoing struggle for the future of the United States of America, right?
But seriously, I can't be the only person who thinks he isn't. In fact, to me, that most important figure in the ongoing struggle for the future of the USA is... me.
