In the last three years we have witnessed our mostly beloved governmental institutions being shredded by the tawdry narcissistic fool known as Trump. And before Trump, the beloved institutions were already being attacked by the Republican party. And because politics became so drenched in big money, there were Democrats who also would trample the nation’s pride for the bucks. A lot of thought has been given to this problem of corruption in our government, mostly in the line of how to get the money out, which I believe would be a great thing to do. But what I suggest here is different.
I think we need a book of ethics for elected officials. The rules (laws) in this book bind anyone who is elected and swears the Oath Of Office, so that they must now follow and fully comply. There will be punishment for violations. Loss of office and then jail time. There are no elected officials who are exempt.
Next question is who would write these rules? Darn good question, but I think Richard Painter could put together a good start. We all know that elected officials must be held to a higher standard than a lying real estate mob loving fraudster. Just think, if we had good ethics laws with teeth, how many of these swamp gurgling slime balls would want to take that oath?
