Apologies to ericle

by pholkiephred

Frame 1:
In his traditional role of siding with the mafiosofish whenever possible, Governor Crispy-Toast Christy-Blowfish came out flailing against legalizing cannabisgrass this week.

Frame 2:
While swimming upstream seeking the approval of the Tea Fish, el Blowfish remarked: "Why should those skinny fish be pandered to?  If they eat any more they'll be too fast and smart for me to catch and devour!"

Frame 3:
(Picture of hungry looking cat with a peace symbol t-shirt on his back staring at fat fish floating by with ravenous hunger in his eyes.)

Frame 4:
(Spear-fisher black panther with spear-gun reeling in fat fish with small harpoon through it's belly.)

New Poll for Florida Gov.

by pholkiephred

The most recent poll I saw puts Governor /Alien Scott with a one point lead in a projected match-up with former Gov. Crist.  I haven't seen any polling on a Nan Rich/Scott matchup.  Nan is probably the more progressive/possibly the less electable candidate.  Soooo Kossacks, if you could vote in Florida's soon upcoming primary:

Poll

I'm a democrat and I would vote for:

54%105 votes

A Florida Governor's Race poll

by pholkiephred

On November 4, 2014, Florida voters can go to the polls to nominate Rick Scott / another Republican or a Democrat for the office of Governor.  Although both primary winners might indeed be the forgone conclusions that many think it to be, the many aren't always correct.  There are at least 3 serious candidates on blue side of the ballot: Charlie Crist, the former Red governor turned Blue who has always been viewed as kind of purple or lavender, Nan Rich the former Blue minority leader of the FL Senate, and Iranian ex-pat economist Farid Khawri who ran as an Independent (Gray?) in 2010 for the same seat.  "A key part of Khavari's economic plan is to create The Bank of the State of Florida. "Using the fractional reserve regulations that govern all banks, we can earn billions per year for Florida's treasury, while saving thousands of dollars per year for Florida homeowners," Khavari said. "After we cover the $50 billion in Florida State Board of Administration losses, we can reduce taxes." [6] Rich received endorsements from both the Florida NOW and NOW as well as Buddy MacKay, the most recent Democratic governor of Florida.[3]Crist's term as Governor ended in January 2011. On December 7, 2012, he joined the Democratic Party, having endorsed President Barack Obama for re-election in 2012.[2] On November 1, 2013, he announced that he was running for Governor in the 2014 election.[3]  Drop down below the orange Sunshine state gerrymanderkin.

Poll

I WOULD VOTE FOR THE FOLLOWING FOR FL GOVERNOR:

16%36 votes
10%23 votes

RIP with Woody, Pete

by pholkiephred

It's not often a legend reaches the end of his days on earth.  I knew Pete Seeger was elderly already when I first became aware of him and the effects he had on the Union, Folk Music and Political landscapes in America.  When I got to meet him (sort of) at a Hudson River Revival Festival around 1971 or so, I had no trouble realizing he was the real deal.  After playing the final set of music for the day he admonished us all to leave this beautiful place as clean as when we had arrived there (in Tarrytown?).  To make his point clear, he picked up a garbage bag and was soon wandering among the concert goers picking up cans and paper and bottles and cigarette butts.  I was elbow to elbow with a legend and when I saw him up close and thanked him for being such an inspiration I could already see the wisdom of ages in his cracked face and gaunt  frame.  He didn't smile or play humble foole but simply reached down and scooped up some more junk and made sure I too had a bag to fill.  Arlo signed my camera case (Kodak Instamatic) and Bromberg brought the hottest licks I'd ever heard, but Pete was Mr Inspiration.

play on brothers and sisters

Despite getting one of his songs poached by first W and then McCain, John Hall has had a very distinguished career as a congressman, I believe from upstate New York, after he ended his musical career.  After fronting several bands (most notably Orleans) in the 70s and forward and writing a catalog of material with ex wife Johanna, John recently resurfaced with a tour and a couple of interesting one off performances including the one here that has Pete Seeger (yes 89 year old Pete Seeger) helping out on banjo and applause.  Nice to see plenty of us aging rockers still rocking, even if seated occasionally.  The bar-stool boogie is a legitimate dance too!  With the Japanese nuclear reactor still leaking, eh, spewing toxic waste, this oft-criticized song just rings as true as ever.  Please vote in nuclear power poll below the kosquiggle and vid.

While it continues to be a mystery why a small herb with the potential to be a major source of protein, medicine, clothing and federal income is derided simply because it makes some people actually feel better, alas, it is the hand being dealt.  It is quite amazing to travel the country or the globe and see the disparities arising and the legal hoops being created by this aspect of our cultures.  With that in mind, I ask everyone to take a second and vote in this poll.

Legal Pot Ramifications in hiring

by pholkiephred

With several states legalizing marijuana for medicinal, personal or other uses, it has to now be coming at least relevant if not important to HR directors, especially those who work for multi-state corporations, as to what they will do about the old pissing in the bottle for Ronnie to detect Cannabinoids routine that has long been used to screen out all those dangerous pot smokers from becoming secret good citizens with, you know, JOBS!  If you're one trace over the line you don't get the job with many companies.  While alcoholics, coke heads and others whose drug of choice happens to be water soluble and not fat soluble get to slide in undetected.  I'm going to start by assuming that within a reasonable number of years HR "laws"for companies in states with progressive policies will catch up to reality and common sense (OK, I do know this is a stretch) but in the rouge states it's fillin' up bottles for Ronnie time every time you want to switch or get employment. Unfortunately, Ronnie begat the Bushies and Clinton and Obama and federal law actually lags state laws in this area.  All of which begs my legal question:  If Marijuana is legal in a state, can a company refuse employment in that state based on a positive drug screen for it?

Fl Governor poll

by pholkiephred

As the importance of winning back some key governorship has been expostulated here far better than I could do, I would like to take the obvious next step and start casting a net for a potential winner for the dems (Team Blue) in the Florida gubernatorial contest to replace Tea-bircher Rick Scott.  One guy that has played for several teams and therefor made more than his share of both friends and enemies is the old governor, Republican, eh, Independent, eh, Democrat Charlie Crist.  Team Blue Florida has not been putting up really strong candidates for statewide office in recent years and the gerrymandered results are predictable on both the local and state-wide levels.  Floriduh has become a national laughingstock (or worse) but did engender one priceless bumper sticker:  "Don't blame me, I vote with the majority."  And I did as well.  Please vote below the 'Kosgesquiggle.'
