Congressman Tim Ryan is one of the who-are-you-again people running for the Democratic nomination for President. With the second debate concluded, Ryan has now unveiled a campaign slogan. You can even get it as a sticker!
You Don’t Have To Yell
Tim Ryan
2020
We’re facing severe suffering and possible extinction of our species because of climate change, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We’re tearing kids from their parents and putting them in cages and prisons for the crime of wanting to be American while not being white, cages and prisons where it’s so crowded that they can’t find a spot on the floor to sleep, where they are not allowed to shower, where women are told that if they’re thirsty then they can drink out of a toilet, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We were attacked and our democracy directly effected by Russia employing a social media campaign against us, and the current President and his campaign and administration have directly benefited from Russia’s actions, welcomed those actions, the Senate Majority Leader refuses to do anything about it and refuses to let anyone else do anything about it, and we’ve been warned that not only is Russia still working against our democracy currently but also other countries are going to start wanting to do the same thing, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We have a President of the United States who makes blatant racist comments all the time, speaks in support of white nationalism, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We have a President of the United States who bragged about sexually assaulting women, has made inappropriate sexual comments about minors, inappropriate sexual comments about his own daughter, has been accused of rape multiple times, and who who directed his lawyer to violate the law to pay off two women with whom he had affairs, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We have a healthcare system that still puts insurance profits as more important than people being able to afford to see a doctor and take medicine, but “you don’t have to yell.”
People of color continue to be brutalized by police, and those brutal police face no consequences for their behavior, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We are legitimizing the dictator of North Korea, but “you don’t have to yell.”
We have a President of the United States who has distanced the United States from our traditional allies in pursuit of approval from Russia, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia instead, but “you don’t have to yell.”
If all of the horrors that are happening today doesn’t justify yelling to you Tim Ryan, then there is no way anyone can trust you to understand any of the problems our country faces, and thus no reason for anyone to even remotely support you as a candidate. In his tweet, Ryan chastises people as not being “civil” in their speech. Behold the display of Tim Ryan’s wealthy white male privilege.
“You Don’t Have To Yell” as a campaign slogan is absurd. Who is your campaign manager that thought this was a good idea? Who are you that you thought this was a good idea, Tim Ryan?
For fun, to anyone who might want to comment: What campaign slogans from past elections in your life, or ones you’re aware of from before you were born even, do you particularly remember? What slogans did you think were particularly good, and which ones did you think were bad?
