In a lot of cases credit unions (even local ones) are big financial supporters of the repub party and individual repub candidates (especially on the local and state level).

I'm a little concerned about the zeal to push people towards credit unions, when in a lot of cases local banks are just as good, or even better, and don't get involved in the political arena at all.

At the very least I'd like to see a push to have people check out to see what sort of political donations (if any) their prospective credit unions, or local banks are making, before making the switch.

When I made the switch a few years back after getting irritated with my credit union throwing money at repub candidates I used opensecrets to find a bank that doesn't donate money to repubs, and not only has it been an all around positive experience in the years since... I got a free pumpkin pie out of the deal to boot! :-P

If you're going to go through the hassle of switching banks, why not switch to one that isn't going to use your money to undermine your political, social, and financial interests?
