  •  I agree that the 1%/99% thing is simplistic (4+ / 0-)

Lots of 99%ers knowngly overlevereged themselves by buying houses they couldn't possibly afford in the hopes of flipping them, out of pure greed. And not all rich people are scumbags. But the basic divide between exploiters and the exploited is still accurate and useful, although it falls on moral and not just wealth lines. We're not against wealth, just the ill-gotten and destructive kind.

    •  I think the two extremes you point out (3+ / 0-)

are the minority.   Generally speaking, rich people act like scum bags and little people are too easily led astray.

Yes we can, but he won't.

try to emulate the rich people they admire and want and fully expect to be "real soon". I know some of them. Huge swaths of the middle class tried to become such pseudo-nuveaux-riche types in the 90's and 00's and have the credit card bills, bankruptcies and foreclosures to show for it.

They bought into Reagan's snake oil lies (or pretended to at least because they tired of the slow and steady path to affluence), and were part of the problem. Who do you think bought all those gas-guzzling SUVs, 70" plasma TVs and 5000 sq ft McMansions? Not Warren Buffet or the Kochs.

I realize that most Americans aren't like this. But an awful lot were. We were on a 30 year infantile bender and it'll take years to get cleaned up.
