  •  Here's what always gets me about these idiots: (5+ / 0-)

If God exists and is in fact the omnipotent and all-knowing creator of the Universe and everything in it, what kind of utter moron would think that God would be in any way threatened or diminished by a speech given by a single mortal human who does not believe in God's existence? In fact, projecting such weakness on one's concept of the Creator seems like far more of an insult than the results of Dawkins' intellectual inquiry could ever be.

My take? Deep down, most Fundamentalist Christians clearly recognize on some level that their entirely human conception of the divine is so weak and limited - not to mention ridiculous on its face - that it will crumble in the face of any rational analysis or criticism. Hence, all rational analysis or criticism of their nonsensical joke of a "religion" is to be feared and avoided at all costs.

Note that I'm speaking of the views of today's weak-kneed, fear-based Fundamentalists specifically - which stand in stark contrast to the conception of reality held by most agnostics, atheists, and for that matter adherents of any spiritual tradition which actually allows for nuance, debate, and the consideration of new or differing points of view.
