  •  "Friends" are used in a very loose manner (8+ / 0-)

I've seen Reid, McConnell and even Obama use that term to describe colleagues on the other side..particularly when they are criticizing them.

So when she uses that term, I take it to mean colleagues sarcastically dubbed as "friends." I don't think they are her BFF's by any means.

    •  probably right about that (2+ / 0-)

"friends" may be colleagues I work with, that i have to deal with

"friends" may be actual friends that are relaying information they heard.

    •  What an odd perception. They use "friends" out (4+ / 0-)

of a sense of comity. They're part of the same club, which is exclusive of everybody else. It's not sarcastic at all.

What you--and eclectablog--are doing is ignoring the fact that this representative is part of the problem because she has a "D" after her name. You're pretending she has some noble goals or motives and she's just trying to pursue them as best she can wthin the existing framework.

It's not the sort of 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge' version of "friends" you seem to think it is.

She may actually be interested in helping her constituents (her real constituents--the 99%ers in her district). But as long as she continues to participate in this Two Parties Farce she'll continue to be part of the problem.

      •  Wait, what? (9+ / 0-)

Here, I'll name one for you:

        Mitch Fucking McConnell.

He's been on national television with this message. We just happen to have confirmation that his minions are all on board with it now.

But, frankly, I don't think she needs to name names. C’mon, it’s fucking ALL of them. You know it. I know it. The whole fucking country knows it. Hell, the interviewer herself said she’s hearing it from “a lot of Democrats”. Urrbuddy knows what’s going on. Naming the names of people confirming it isn’t even necessary.

She's not making the GOP do this, she's not helping them do this and her minority status in Congress as a Democrat makes it damn hard for her to do anything about them doing this.

But, if you think she's as responsible for what the GOP is doing as they are because she won't hand you a list with the names of every single Republican in Congress on it, you're being absurd.

Keep in mind that she and all the other Dems have to work with these dirtbags every goddam day and would like to try to at least get something positive done for the country. Going after and alienating specific individuals with whom she at least has open paths of dialogue with probably isn't in anybody's best interest.

And I think everybody here knows that the word "friends" in the US Congress has a significantly different meaning than it does in the rest of the world. It's often a replacement for "these evil fuck  dickweed I have to work with day in and day out and who happen to run the place at the moment."

        •  Yes, but when most Americans hear (0+ / 0-)

a member of Congress use that term "friend" about another member in a different party, they don't realize it's some term that has a different meaning. Most Americans aren't privy to this sort of inside ball, which is precisely why our Members of Congress need to stop using confusing terms that make it seem like they're colluding with Republicans.

First, it isn't ALL of the Republicans. Second, your claim that it is, and the simultaneous claim that Democrats are blameless, doesn't jive with the actual empirical data. We know that there are many Democrats (if not most of them) working, actively, with Republicans in an effort to impose austerity and other anti-99% measures.

If she really wanted to counter the Republicans' efforts, she'd have an agenda consisting of some means to get out the message with specific names and specific acts of deliberate sabotage. Your protestation that "we all know it's all republicans" is neither relevant nor valid in this context. Quite aside from being empircally unsupportable, it's a broad abstraction you've made in a realm where specifics are required in order to get the point across.

Your statement "we all know it's ALL of them" is like somebody saying "all politicians are corrupt." There might be some kernel of truth to it, but the implied problem--how to prevent, stop, or otherwise counter the corruption--has no solution without specific acts to point to and say, "See, we have this person or group doing this thing at this time; let's stop that."

What you're doing is giving her, and all the other people on your team, a pass because she's on your team. It's that simple.

...deliberately tanking the economy to ruin the president. I see no evidence that any of the Republicans aren't party to that. Look at their recent votes. And I see no evidence that the Democrats ("my team") are.

But, hey, if you know of some Republicans that aren't and some Democrats that are, I invite you to name names.

            •  You're obfuscating and deflecting again. (0+ / 0-)

              See if you can follow:

              1) Your diary is about a congresswoman who claimed to have heard directly from several Republican colleagues that they are deliberately trying to tank the economy in order to weaken President Obama

              2) Several commenters, including yours truly, have opined that because said Congresswoman refuses to name names (and, in my case, specific incidents), she's part of a larger problem (wider in scope, but not detached from, Republicans' antics regarding the economy), specifically and especially that her silence in practice makes her a complicit partner with Republicans' efforts

              3) Your response is first to obfuscate by broad generalization ("She doesn't need to name names because they all do it") and then, after having been shown why that is neither relevant nor sufficient to defend her compicity via silence, to claim that the original observations and statements (re: her silence) were never under discussion

              Make up your mind.

      •  She's had their position rubbed in her face (0+ / 0-)

and she's still singing the "they're my friends, we can work together" tune. No you can't because they won't.
The more the Ds compromise, the more the Rs pull right because they don't want Democrats to look like they've accomplished anything. And they've told her this straight out and she still doesn't understand what it means.

        •  I think she understands. It's just that, like most (0+ / 0-)

of her colleagues in office--on either side of the aisle--she holds her position in the club as being far more important than anything else, including whether or not the rest of us are screwed.
