  •  I'm tipping and rec'ing this one. (10+ / 0-)

I would merely emphasize--where the diarist veers perilously close to fatalism--we can't, from here, know history's future direction. We can take known trends seriously, and work to shape them, but tomorrow and next year are unfathomable. The greed and arrogance of oligarchs will cast ripples we didn't envision, and which take us (and them) completely by surprise. Did anyone see the Occupy movement building? Not me, that's for sure. No matter how gloomy things look, developments we didn't anticipate, will always influence the future.

and would never have guessed there would be one right here in our country - just 5 years ago.
We were seeing the buildup in disparity, we were noting the similarities to the Gilded Age and the Great Depression.
We were all pointing out the crimes and abuses of the 1%, and we were bravely also pointing out the worst of the Democrats as well.  We just renamed them.  Now they are "Blue Dogs".  Really just Republicans that are supposed to be moderate.
I will vote for those Democrats that didn't completely screw me and my folk.  I won't vote for any Republicans.  I will vote "other" on the contests between two obvious evils.
Voting is still a right that I will exercise while I still have it.

If Occupy hadn't appeared in out midst, some other movement just like it would have.  It's time for it.
