The collapse of the Euro will wipe out all the gains since WWII and will replicate many conditions present in the Great depression, political and social instability will become a fact of life.

In my opinion, that is where Europe, and indeed most of the industrialized world, is headed now without the collapse of the Euro.

Austerity is the new mantra regardless of who gets hurt.  And pardon my ignorance, but it seems to me Germany is being completely tone-deaf if they think they can dictate austerity and they will not feel the fall-out.  Memories are longer than many care to acknowledge.

When the new order that took hold after WWII collapses, it will be replaced by a new order.  Since the collapse will be of the capitalist system, my guess tells me the new order will be closer to socialism.
