  •  I truly believe the masses place little value (9+ / 0-)

in education, and this belief is being promoted by the right wing. A dumb population is easier to manipulate and with the plutocracy's actions now being exposed daily, they need a dumb population as soon as possible.

Alas these masses really are sheep. they vote against their own interests and are too stupid to recognize it.

I live in a county that voted 2/3 in 2008 for a TP candidate (and a fairly extreme one at that) yet according to local statistics one in four in the county use food stamps or rely on some form of government handout. How can this be rationalized? The only thing I can interpret from this is that a large percentage of people are quite happily cutting themselves off at the knees. The irony is that if the Republicans win in 2012 these people will be steamrolled first and not one of them can see it. THAT is what the war on education is doing, and very well too I might add unfortunately.

As long as there are people like you fighting this fight for us we have a chance. Thank you.

    •  Our county is similar to yours. Abortion is the (5+ / 0-)

primary wedge issue.  The local Baptist and Catholic churches have people convinced they will go to Hell if they vote for a pro-choice candidate.  We put up an Obama sign in our yard and someone actually wrote "baby killers" on our driveway in chalk.  Fortunately, I saw it from our second floor and was able to wash it off with the hose before our son had to walk across the hateful message on his way to the school bus.

Plutocracy (noun) Greek ploutokratia, from ploutos wealth; 1) government by the wealthy; 2) 21st c. U.S.A.; 3) 22nd c. The World
