  •  Porter-Cable used to be good. (2+ / 0-)

    Used to. Years ago.

I have a couple of Porter-Cable cordless things, a drill and a circular saw. We got them in 2000, maybe, or maybe the year before. I know they were used to build the stage/deck down by the pond. (Even though there's been no show on it since the Pasturedance in 2000, I still call it the stage. Habit - and wishful thinking.)

They've lasted, and lasted well. But this was years before they were bought out, I suspect, and back then it was a respectable brand.

I used to respect Troy-Bilt, too, back before they moved their production lines to China. Back just after they'd done that, our local feed store had a sale on the final year's worth of Made-In-US Troy-Bilts and they were warning all interested potential buyers that next year's models would all be made in China. I bought my rototiller that year and am still glad I did.

    How's DeWalt? Where's it made?

Most DeWalt tools are now assembled in Mexico, China, Taiwan or the Czech Republic from components manufactured in Mexico, China, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Korea, Japan, Thailand, or the USA.

DeWalt used to make tools in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy. In 1984, Dewalt's parent company acquired the woodworking and power tool assets of German manufacturer ELU. After that acquisition, some of DeWalt's tools were manufactured at the former ELU factories in Idstein, Germany, and Monza, Italy. The plant in Italy still supplies parts for DeWalt's routers.  The 3 HP Dewalt DW625 router is made in italy.

I cannot vouch for the accuracy of that info.

I had a DeWalt jig saw that I was never happy with.
