Far be it from me to discourage you, because I am very fond of my subscription, but since that one time when it tried to kill me, it has done nothing unexpected, including providing foot rubs or double macchiato deliveries. (I think I might pay more than $100 for an online subscription that did provide those things -- Markos, take note.)

However, I understand the feeling you're describing. It reminds me of the whole thing about groups, back when DK4 was new. People who actually wrote for a group were then called "members" and people who were just interested in reading were called "followers". Everyone was scrambling to become a "member" of their favorite group, even if they had no plan to write a word, because no one could stand to be a non-"member" "follower". It didn't matter how many times Markos explained it; nobody wanted the Groups Boat to sail without them.

I'm mostly on a low-powered netbook and so the lack of ads is very helpful to me. I'm not sure how much I like the idea of premium content for subscribers, like the e-books. I mean, I will like the e-books and will definitely download them, but it sort of makes me twitch that there's content for subscribers only. But maybe it's just regular content that's been packaged nicely, which would be okay. It's a tough call. That's why I'm so keen on the gift subscription thing -- I don't want there to be people who can't get some stuff because they can't pay.
