even opened the book except to cover it (which eventually I took over, as her hands just became too old to cope).   Sadly, I was away at school when she retired, so I just sent a note, and received a really lovely letter from her in reply.  But as for her choice in placement, I think the word galaxy meant less than guide, with her maybe thinking, "Oh these young kids, traveling all over these days."  This was a long time ago, clearly.   Ha. Can't help it, I'm still laughing over that memory.

And am I remembering incorrectly, or did a few books, not even come with numbers?  Excluding fiction, of course. I do remember that some even came with their own little cards for the card catalog, so that we didn't have to type them up.  [I kept working at that library, among others, over several summers while I was in school. We did eventually, under a new librarian, make the switch to LOC.]

    •  I wouldn't be surprised at that. (1+ / 0-)

I watched a mother pass up a really cheap used DVD of The Land Before Time today solely because she couldn't think what anything 'before time' could possibly be.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.
