  •  This is such great news! Congratulations! (3+ / 0-)

Another univ. professor chiming in here.  Pardon me if I offer here advice you don't want or need, but I want to say a couple of things.

    1)  Try and keep your GPA high.  Don't bite off more than you can chew per semester:  make sure you have plenty of time to study.  Get help from your profs and T.A.s  Keeping that GPA over a 3.0 will make you eligible for more financial aid.

    2)  Visit the financial aid office often.  See what opportunities may arise.  Are you eligible for work/study?  That often takes care of tuition costs.  Once you're there for a couple of semesters and have proven yourself with a good GPA, you may find that you're eligible for small scholarships.

    3) Don't get suckered into declaring a major early, unless you're going to go into engineering, architecture, or pre-med.  Keep your options open for the first few semesters.

    4) Finally, if you're considering a liberal arts major, read this for inspiration.

Also keep in mind that I teach art history in Rome to visiting American students.  If you're interested in doing study abroad, let me know!
