  •  how else will we, as the Prez sez, "out-compete" (7+ / 0-)

the other Countries in the global market ? If the planet didn't have infinite resources to loot we'd have to think about coordinating with others, but it's pedal to the metal free market and we gotta beat people.

We do know that piece of paper, best remembered as the Constitution, says something about promoting the general market, and to strive for life (corps. are people), liberty (free from burdensome regulations), and the pursuit of happiness, which actually means profitability because that's when the corps/people are 'happy'.
If only their taxes could get lowered some more, but if they don't get lowered enough (they will get lowered) no one will say that the corps/people don't have 'any skin in the game', that 'they aren't doing their part in the Austerity Now! programs.
Painful sacrifice, but these savvy businessmen, job creators (Foxconn as one example), are real patriots and we'd have to work cheaper, and longer to beat slave wage labor. How else ?

Good grief thinking about this snark, I got this image of the world as one big Easter Island, all the resources depleted and some pleas to a sky fairy carved in stone.

who brought conditions even worse than the island was already suffering from. But a remnant of the population actually did survive.

There were some even more marginal places (Pitcairn, Henderson) where no one survived.
