  •  I did not say they were a cult. I merely ptd out (0+ / 0-)

that they should not do stuff like this if you don;t want folks thinking you are, since this is cult-like behavior.

As for the broader pt, well, it depends on which definition you use.  The one you wish to use would emcompass ALL religions.  There is certainly a case to be made for that, as it can reasonably be argued the only different b/t a 'cult' and say the Catholic church is size and age of the institutions.

'Course, that's one nuget that hints that that definition might not be sufficient: institutions.  As in is it run by an organization that is broad and responsive to its parishioners desires, to a degree- as it is a religion after all - or just one man or small group?  IMO, this is important b/c it allows to differentiate b/t Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist and the like, Baptist (which IMO staddle the divide) and what you would consider 'true cults' like Jones' or the Comet nuts.

But, there is another concern that the 'moronism is a cult' fear encompasses: who's star will Mr. Wallstreet follow?  Remember the fears about JFK and the Pope?  Absurd then and even more so now, but understandable to that degree - which is why JFK gave a major speech addressing that.  IMO that issue is particularly salient for Mr. Wallstreet (not least b/c he is also a high church official, bishop): when push comes to shove will Robot do the secular thing or what his Church wants?  That is what the 'cult' fear really means  (except to certain sectarian bigots).

I do not believe he has yet to address, let alone satisfactorily answer, that question.
