    For me, two takeaways are the importance of sleep and quiet. Both are hard to get in hospitals, rehab facilities, and nursing homes.

    I've seen research that even clinically "mild" strokes are effectively disabling much of the time, in that people can not return to their previous work. In addition to aphasia, there are problems with high-level mental capacities like decision-making that are just horrible even if you regain all your physical capacities.

    Stroke is my worst nightmare, in more ways than one.
