    of these storms. Nevertheless, we were warned about them for days and the NWS issued a high wind warning for our area.

    I think that part of the issue is that news people in New York, where I resided for 35 years, are not attuned to how important an issue is to people in the Midwest and the Plains states.

    I never paid much attention to the weather until I moved here a couple of years  ago. Now that I've spent some terrifying hours glued to the TV, listening to reports of tornadoes passing nearby, with my 'go bag' next to me, ready to seek better shelter, I realize how differently we react to weather in this part of the country.

    Our TV stations, especially the CBS affiliate WTHR (note that call sign) are very focused on weather reporting, frequently interrupting network programs with alerts.
