  •  Exactly! (12+ / 0-)

    Punishment is the bottom line:

In a predatory economy, the rules imagined by the law and economics crowd don’t apply. There’s no market discipline. Predators compete not by following the rules but by breaking them. They take the business-school view of law: Rules are not designed to guide behavior but laid down to define the limits of unpunished conduct.

    •  lawyers are taught that rules are what is to be (8+ / 0-)

manipulated, not respected.  Rules that are not enforced are like laws that are not enforced--after awhile actions become protected by arguing that customary practices were tolerated and the rules were not enforced, thus those who "broke" the law are not liable due to fault of government to enforce its own laws and rules.  The Republicans have truly tried to dismantle and cripple governance in this country since Reagan and especially under George W Bush, and now it shows.  It will take decades to fix this, but only if Democrats stay in power and only if progressives, unions and professional associations keep pushing them to do this.

America needs a UNION NEWS channel. We (unions) have the money, we have the talent. Don't buy 30 second time slots on corporate media, union leaders; fund your own cable news channel and tell the real story 24/7/365
