  •  The problem is "tenacity." The Kleptocrats hammer (8+ / 0-)

and hammer and hammer on the same note, decade after decade. They have turned "democratic" features into ratchets that only turn one way. Our "Dems" no longer know how to play hardball and full court press, 24/7, like the Wrongs do (DO NOT call them "the Right" any more, please -- that's one of the weaknesses we have, conceding points before the game even starts by giving up huge chunks of powerful language to the Wrongs.) My personal view is that most of the nominal "Dems" don't care any more what happens to the Huddled Masses. They are comfortable and cared for, so who gives a shit about prisoners being leased as slave labor to industries, or perpetual war, or tax-policy-encouraged outsourcing, or any of the predations on 'the middle class," that increasingly fictitious object.

The courts are packed because the people who might exercise the check-and-balance function that under the Old Rules might have encouraged some greater equity and stability have simply failed or refused to do the job that too many of us still believe they hired on to do.

Who out there in Progressiveland is going to find the tenacity to counter the shit that the Reds (how recently that was a SINFUL, TRAITOROUS thing to be to these same cognitively dissonant shits) have been pulling off? "We" ain't got the legs to do that, it seems. It's not like de Toqueville did not remark on this flaw in the "American democracy" way back when, of course, and many others since.

Change? Doesn't happen from above, and does not happen at all in the absence of organization, and institutionalization of Purpose and Message and Intent.

"Is that all there is?" Peggy Lee.
