  •  I have in my mind the image of the (8+ / 0-)

little Dutch boy, Hans Brinker, with his finger in the dike, trying to hold back the sea.  These Republicans are trying to hold back the future (and even the present) from crashing in on their world.  Not only the demographic changes that will make them no longer superior just by virtue of being white, male, Christian, straight and American;  but all the changes in manners and morals and weather and entertainment and religion and world politics that come faster and faster with each day.  But the dike is springing so many leaks that they can't hold back the sea forever.

    •  Hans Brinker wasn't *that* little Dutch boy (7+ / 0-)

The eponymous dike hero has no name and may only be a legend.

Hans Brinker was the boy who won a long-distance speed skating race, the prize for which was a pair of silver skates. (Speed skating is still a national obsession in the Netherlands, which is why they're always in the medal count in that sport in every Winter Olympics.)

      •  sorry about that error. (5+ / 0-)

I was looking for an image of the boy holding back the sea to accompany my post, and the first thing I came to was this link:

Shows you can't trust the internet.  Whatever boy it was--legend or no--doesn't negate the comparison in my mind.  But then, again, I probably shouldn't sully this post about "flat out lying" with a mere legend.

Reality is just getting too much for them. Any idea of truth is subversive and potentially fatal. I think it's terminal; I hope they don't take too many others with them.
