I think it's a symptom of the theocratic movement in politics.  When movement leaders can form that are based entirely on personal charisma, you don't necessarily have to be restrained by a world of facts or any rigorous body of knowledge; you can be an influential liar.

The Republican party is becoming a theocratic party, and this is just symptomatic of that ailment.  When you have people like Pat Robertson, and David Barton become influential individuals, they don't have to base the solutions proposed on any tangible thing.  They can simply lie to accomplish their political agenda.

Our media, if it were working properly, would thoroughly expose these people and their lies.  But instead, they have a propaganda network that aims to justify their lies as if it were simply a legitimate competing point of view.

Expect more of this in the future.
