  •  Well a) learn it b) hire someone competent with (0+ / 0-)

    integrity.

No one does all tasks in their life. When the cable across the street was knocked down by a giant tree branch in a huge storm a few years back, none of us neighbors got out and fixed it. The people who had the training and tools did.

Some of us have pretty near zero aptitude for things like finances, for that linear thinking, and would realistically serve no one if we attempted it.

I do think you have good points about educating oneself as to the general lay of the land, however.

    •  You can do as much harm as good (0+ / 0-)

by giving away money to the wrong people.

What is offensive to me is that this "complicated" tax shit...if done right = thousands is not millions of extra $$ with which to make a difference in the world... so the least a person can do is try to understand it.

And I disagree about understanding finances - its not hard, but it does require sitting down and working through it with a professional - for those of us who work and are raising kids, that's quite demanding.

If I didn't have a job though... not too demanding at all.
