  •  That doesn't make sense. If Pius 9 said that (4+ / 0-)

life began at birth (St. Thomas Aquina's opinion if I recall correctly), not at "quickening", then abortion should have been ok.

    •  I think it's a typo and should be reversed (2+ / 0-)

Jews still believe life begins after birth. I am half Jewish and I stand with them.

Take the "Can't(or)" out of Congress. Support E. Wayne Powell in Va-07.

but I find "life begins at birth" as uninformed as "life begins at conception".

In fact, I'd have to say that "life begins at birth" is the more sane of the two positions.

An 8 month fetus is definitely alive and can survive without the mother in most cases.

    •  Oops, I meant "conception" (0+ / 0-)

not "birth".  Wrong end of the scale.

I am really Jewish, though, and we do believe that life begins at birth.  Abortion is seen as a medical procedure:  You do it if it is for the good of the mother, though you don't do it gratuitously (rather like a tattoo -- it's viewed as not taking good care of your body, though it's not like you're killing anyone).
