    India, drought resistant GE corn may not be as productive as other varieties, but neither is going to help if soils are ripped from fields as they were in Vermont and Central NYS. For those type of weather events, we're going to have to change agriculture. Some will come from breeding (Land Institute is working on perennial wheat, using genetics but not GE'd), some will come from bolstering the ability of land to withstand torrential downpours (no till planting keeps soil friable and intact), some will come from reviewing ancient techniques like Mayan raised bed farming. Watersheds will have to be better managed, rivers recalibrated to account for the change in precipitation volume. Lots of work!
