    Whether they can be reclaimed entirely remains to seen.

    But there are suburban resilience scenarios based on the idea of utilizing yards and common areas for gardens and low-intensity farming.  What percentage of the suburb dwellers' diet that can produce remains to be seen, as with whether it could produce enough surplus to feed anyone in the nearby cities.  

    As a generalization, the US is overpopulated relative to accessible resources.  All the "wide open space" out there creates an impression of boundless resources that is not realistic.  

    "Minus two votes for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.
