  •  Is it me, or is the return of the Culture War... (20+ / 0-)

not going so well for the Culture Warriors this go round? Consider that...

Komen drops funding for Planned Parenthood because of abortion, then there's backlash against Komen, people resign, PP gets a huge injection of donations and finally Komen (sort of) goes back on the defunding.

Some Catholic leaders and groups protest the contraception mandate, then President Obama and members of his administration stand up to defend the policy and surveys indicate rank-and-file Catholics are anything but outraged.

Now some conservative-family-whatever group tries to get Ellen fired as a JCP spokesperson because of gay and the CEO himself stands up for her. And this the same week that the Ninth Circuit found Proposition 8 unconstitutional and Washington joined the growing list of states that allow gay marriage.

urn of the Culture War... not going so well for the Culture Warriors this go round?
Maggie Gallagher left her job as President of National Organization for Marriage to start up the Culture War Victory Fund and I facepalmed.

Now, this woman is full of FAIL and really out of touch.

But still, I thought it was kind of hilarious the BRANDED her endeavor as "culture war."

She is so out of touch, she doesn't realize the country has moved on from the 1980s. No one wants to start up the "culture war." It's over. The liberals won.

The cavemen and women are just mucking things up, they can only win occasional temporary battles.

      •  I agree with you, Scott. (4+ / 0-)

We're about the same age. We've been through the 80's and in my case, I came out in the 80's. That was a long time ago. We've moved on.

I spent today working for marriage equality in Maine. Much more fun than working for NOM or being a RC Bishop. ;)

      •  That branding is interesting (0+ / 0-)

Obviously, we're not the target market here.

What's interesting is how unsubtle it is. National Organization for Marriage is kind of a euphemism for "don't let thr homos marry." Actually calling it a culture war victory fund seems a little desperate - like they feel like they need to dispense with the circumlocutions to provoke enough panic to get support.

It also seems a little like a reference to world war II victory bonds. I guess liberals are the Axis powers here; at least we get German beer to go with the Italian and Japanese food?

        •  I agree, totally. (3+ / 0-)

And think while Maggie is a stupid person, she isn't stupid enough to really imagine there can be a resurgent mainstream culture war movement.

The mainstream is not the target market.

It's a wingnut welfare Organization. It's a graft operation, like Sarah Palin's "presidential" ambitions.

It will collect money from neanderthals who fear lesbians hawking t-shirts for JC Penney is the first horseman of the apocalypse. And it will collect money for dead in the water, pie in the sky initiatives like amending the US Constitution to ban gay marriage. And Maggie will laugh way all the way to the bank, while teenagers continue to kill themselves thanks to the relentless vitriol she directs at too many essentially good people.

          •  Wow, I'd never heard of Ms. Gallagher (1+ / 0-)

Followed the link above. What a horrid, sad person. I'm sure she gets paid by the rubes who support her cause. But she's basically running the political equivalent of a VHS rental. She has to know the best she can do is delay the inevitable. How sad.

During the Bush admin she was a syndicated newspaper columnist.

It came out she'd collected hundreds of thousands of dollars to write nice things in her syndicated column about Bush's family friend initiatives.

Of course she didn't have the journalist integrity to tell her readers she was on the Bush Admin payroll and essentially composing press releases for them disguished as op-eds.

              Because she's a greedy liar.

Find a hard right wing cause, and you'll find some wealthy asshole to bankroll it.
