    This was conventional wisdom until about twenty years ago. Undoubtedly a younger person has some enhanced repair mechanisms, but adults can grow new neurons also. If you have nerve damage in your hand, one can watch it grow back over a number of months. Neurons are neurons, that is what is repairing itself and growing back.

    Misinformation dies hard, but a LOT of work is going into neurogenesis these days. Growing neurons.

      written by the brain specialist Jill Bolte Taylor, i think is her name.  Her brain rewired it self,  and it took her 6 or 7 years.  I did read though she had a type of stroke that was rare, and the other kind may do more damage.  But she forgot how to talk and had to relearn every thing.
