It fits with your take.  I'm more inclined toward reincarnation.  I read a lot about it, and in one book a visitor to the afterlife asked about the people scattered around, appearing to be in deep comas.  "Oh, they believe they're dead.  Eventually they wake up and move on.". Cracked me up.  They believe they're dead.  Why not?  Choice is for everyone.

I'm not looking for a love that will lift me up and carry me away. A love that will stroll alongside and make a few amusing comments will suffice.

posited that after we die, we end up where we think we will.

If you imagine heaven is a cloudy afterlife with golden roadways and wings, then, "Poof!"  You  get to be an angel after you die.  If your thoughts are obsessed with  visions of fiery hells and demons, then that's what's waiting. (My heaven will be a comfortable chair with all my favorite pets surrounding me.)

His point, really, is that we make our own heaven or hell with our choices.

      And he was raised Catholic.

Great diary and interesting comment thread.

take any day of the week.  I get to be reincarnated, my grandma is playing a harp and wearing wings, and with any luck at all Dick Cheney will be waterboarded for eternity.  That's gotta be one of his favorite things, right?
