On the macro level, of the strong leader, like the monarch, or like the dictator.

But on the micro level, the father as the absolute ruler of the family. Right or wrong, this figure of authority is by definition right and his way is the only way. It's not even his way or the highway. Run away and Sanctorum will pick you up, send you back home, and allow the paternalistic dad figure to mete out whatever punishment or abuse he wishes. God anointed the dad as the absolute ruler of the household, and therefore what he wants is right, even if it is wrong by any other standards.

...when runaway slaves were caught, returned to their masters and punished. This is also similar to some eastern cultures in which male members dominate and control their female relatives. Honor killings are a result. Also, in Saudi Arabia, women cannot leave their houses without a male relative escorting them. And they cannot leave the country without a male relative's permission. Imagine a mother having to get her son's permission to travel abroad.

      Mind boggling...

me and "God" don't see eye to eye.  If all persons were created equal, then why should a father (never a mother) have absolute power over the family?

Oh, that's right, because human men created religion and "God" and all the sexist rules that go along with it.  Hmm, wonder why all the religious rules so heavily favor men...I wonder....I wonder.
