  •  Oh my goodness (20+ / 0-)

I'm sending my best thoughts their way. My late mom survived a MRSA infection in her leg bone after one of her hip replacements. At the time she was as weak and frail as a person could be so remember that positive outcomes can happen.

    •  Thank you. Real-life stories are very (5+ / 0-)

a year ago at this time he had a colonoscopy, but wasn't given antibiotics ahead of time to prevent infection (he had a pig valve in place already, so it should have been SOP). Anyway he fought an infection for 2 months. It got bad enough that we almost lost him. A last minute emergency surgery replaced the pig valve which was failing because of the infection with a metal one. After the heart was repaired FIL fought back and made a stunning recovery.

MRSA is a frightening thing. Healing thoughts for Ed--his story is so much like FIL's and I am hoping that Ed's recovery story is the same too.

serious this was. Where I work, a rehab hospital, MRSA is kind of a regular occurence. Lots of old people with poor immune systems.

Staff uses personal protective equipment, antibiotics are given and in a few days the paitient clears.

Ed's case is apparently much more virulent than what I've seen, maybe a true SuperBug.
