following VN when the official line was that PTSD did not exist or was malingering while Agent Orange was completely harmless and people could bathe in it with no ill effects.  The post VN position was a retreat from military medicine for a condition that was known to exist in the literature at least since the Civil War

Many people who develop PTSD in the military are purposefully mislabeled as BPD, or BiPolar in order to deny them benefits.

The only other explanation would be incompetence. I suppose that could be true too.

Or they just throw your records out:
      http://www.thestate.com/...

"Veterans Affairs officials are investigating why 95 records were erroneously dumped in a shredder bin at the VA office in Columbia. An unidentified employee at the Columbia office is under investigation for mishandling the documents, which include new benefits claims and other personal files, VA officials said."

or hide unopened claims in a crawlspace:

      http://www.armytimes.com/...

"A new report about Veterans Affairs Department employees squirreling away tens of thousands of unopened letters related to benefits claims is sparking fresh concerns that veterans and their survivors are being cheated out of money. VA officials acknowledge further credibility problems based on a new report of a previously undisclosed 2007 incident in which workers at a Detroit regional office turned in 16,000 pieces of unprocessed mail and 717 documents turned up in New York in December during amnesty periods in which workers were promised no one would be penalized."

Ya THINK?  I know a bunch of Vietnam vets with T-shirts, they show someone with a Viet Cong soldier hanging from a knife plunged into a patient's back; the patient is standing at the VA being told "Sorry, not service connected."

Their ability to deny and defy the obvious, and screw people without a care, God almighty.  It's not even safe to stay home anymore, the world is too vile.
