  •  Look forward, not back = cowardice (13+ / 0-)

i'll vote for Obama only b/c the other option is far worse.  If there was actually a good candidate to vote for, i would vote for her/him over Obama (can anyone say E. Warren?).  I absolutely do not see Obama as a good candidate, but merely the lesser of two evils.
Some good things have happened in his Administration, and R'thugs have conspired to constrain what amount of good legislation could come to him to sign.  But a whole host of Executive level decisions, which are free from the constraints of Congress, appall me.  His quest to appear centrist are sickening and actually prevent a lot of progress from being made.

    •  I think we have to draw the line somewhere (11+ / 0-)

I will absolutely not vote for Obama, mainly because of this.

      •  Precisely (9+ / 0-)

and precisely where I drew the line. It's one thing to let the banksters walk free (well, actually, let them run the whole bloody economy) but not the torturers. And see my posting above re the Geneva Convention ... how "quaint" I suppose.

was just the icing on the cake. Quite frankly, I wasn't surprised when it happened. Do I want 4 more years of this crap? Not really.

That's where I drew the line, too.

Barack Obama: So morally bankrupt that he thinks people who tortured other people to death should get a pass. Likes to prosecute whistleblowers and pot smokers, though.

The only thing we really needed was a return to the pre-Bush respect for the Constitution and the rule of law.

A lot of other things would have been nice, like single-payer, an immediate end to the Iraq war, an end to paperless voting, campaign finance reform, action on  climate change, etc, etc, etc.

But the bare minimum was a return to the pre-Bush respect for the Constitution and the rule of law. And Obama has utterly failed at that. Instead, he has just kept bulldozing.

and was that asking for too much?

The rule of law (Mr Constitutional Professor, remember?) and prosecution of the war criminals. A basic single payer health care scheme would have been a bonus. (Remember when he promised all the negotiations "would be on C-SPAN"? And then denied he ever promised such a thing?)

Instead "Mr Transparent Government" (as you obviously know) is anything but, BushCo criminals get off scot free ("Time to look forward") and there are now more illegal wars going on than during Bush's era.

I remember tears in my eyes as I watched the Obama inauguration in the wee hours in a Tokyo hotel on my laptop. The only tears now for Obama are ones of rage.

The best case scenario is that he's a spineless incompetent completely out of his depth in modern politics. The alternative is that he is a corporate, military industrial complex puppet and the whole campaign was a hoax. Either way we're screwed.

      •  I know this could cause a flame war, but (0+ / 0-)

not voting for Obama sends the wrong message to the Republicans, because they'll be one vote closer to being able to go back and do it all over again.  I'm pretty disgusted too, but I cannot and will not let the Republicans back into office to do this again - at least not without a fight.

And thus you give away the only power you have over the Administration.

Until Democrats stop enabling their candidates out of fear of Republicans, they must accept that they are actively condoning their own politicians' excesses.

      •  or i could not vote (0+ / 0-)

and help assure that some other political group pushes through even more excessive and repressive laws.  i know that Democrats are far from perfect.  You got a better option? Other than not participating at all?

        •  Rewarding Democratic failure encourages same. (0+ / 0-)

As long as there is no consequence where it counts, Democrats have no reason whatsoever to take you seriously.

You call them cowards, and then say you'll vote for them anyway because you're more afraid of Republicans. Think on that.
