  •  but isn't that code just administrative? (7+ / 0-)

isn't the physician just noting that the patient is also unemployed?  are you saying that insurer's view unemployment as a separate medical condition?  is the insurer taking the position that a "diagnosis" of being unemployed contravenes the diagnosis of being depressed and suicidal?

If you are saying that the insurer is treating "unemployment" as a medical condition or risk factor, that could result in an otherwise valid claim being denied, that should be an entire Diary in its own!

that. An entire diagnosis on its own. And one for which prior approval or a specific benefit in the policy has excluded.

Exploring the possiblities further, let us assume this poor man had actually attempted suicide by opiate overdose. He wakes up in a few days and is ecvetually released after being admirtted unconcsious. He informs the phsyician of the method employed in his attmept.

Claim denied for no benefits in the policy for an inpatient admssion for substance abuse or dependence "wihtout prior written authorization."  Guy never touched a hard drug in his life before this.  Pills were his mother's who had severe pain. After 4 months we were able to get this overturned.
